Winemaking Notes: This is the first Riesling produced from Modales' estate La Gracia Vineyard. The fruit was picked in late September, which is very early for Riesling. It was crushed gently and soaked on its skins overnight to extract aromatics. The juice cold settled for 24 hours and then was transferred to neutral French oak puncheons (500-liter barrels) for fermentation with native yeasts. The wine took 6 months to ferment (Halb-Jahr means half year in German). Fermentation was stopped at 6g/L of residual sugar to keep the wine juicy. It remained on its full fermentation lees right up until bottling. The wine was gently cross flow filtered and bottled under screw cap to preserve the freshness of the wine.

Vineyard Notes: La Gracia Vineyard is farmed using organic techniques. No synthetic pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers were utilized at any point in the growing season. The Riesling vines are young, planted in 2019. This is the vineyard surrounding the winery. It is about 5.5 miles from Lake Michigan.

Tasting Notes: This wine was made in the style of old school Kabinett wines from Germany. It’s fresh, lively, funky and refreshing. Pair it with sweet & sour chicken, pad Thai with zucchini, and arugula salad.
