Cantina Bolzano Schiava is a classic expression of Alto Adige’s traditional red grape, known locally as Vernatsch (also known as Trollinger). Grown at around 500 meters in Maddalena, Santa Giustina, and Coste, the vineyards are farmed using organic practices.
Schiava produces a light, pale ruby red with a distinctly fresh and aromatic character. Strawberry, red cherry, raspberry, and subtle citrus notes lead into a dry, delicate palate with vibrant acidity and soft tannins. The must is fermented in stainless steel, with a portion of the wine maturing in large wooden barrels before spending several months in bottle.
Schiava has long been an important part of Alto Adige’s wine culture, producing wines that are light on their feet, refreshing, and remarkably versatile. This is a classic example from Cantina Bolzano, a cooperative representing generations of local growers and a continued focus on sustainable vineyard practices.
