Cellar Notes: El Suelo translates to “the soil.” It’s a celebration of place and people. Red wine that is meant to be shared and effortlessly food friendly! Inspired by the vibrant reds of Germany and Austria, this blend doesn’t try to be the loudest wine in the room, it just vibes. Sourced entirely from the sustainably farmed Kroupa Vineyard on the Old Mission Peninsula, this year’s El Suelo reclaims its Germanic roots with a juicy mix of Dornfelder and Blaufränkisch. Dornfelder brings the plush, dark berry fruit and that irresistible inky color. Blaufränkisch adds a savory, spicy lift and the type of aromatics that turn a casual sip into a second glass…or third.

Each variety spontaneously fermented separately and pressed early to keep things bright and low on tannin. Dornfelder was aged in stainless steel to lock in its lively charm. Meanwhile, Blaufränkisch saw some neutral French oak, giving it just enough earthy depth without overshadowing its vibrancy. After a few rounds of blending trials, the final cuvée aged together in stainless steel to unify all the elements.
