Popelouchum 2025 Aligoté, Calleri Vineyard, San Benito

Aligoté is a noble variety from Burgundy, producing wines of bracing natural acidity, savory mineral richness, and typical notes of citrus, flowers, and peach. It is a grape that seems destined for a broader audience and is simply waiting for its moment.

The 'Golden' Aligoté, or Aligoté Doré, is an older, lower yielding biotype that is particularly prized for its rarity, especially outside of Burgundy. This wine has not been filtered. We'll be seeing (and tasting) you later, Aligoté.

We were incredibly fortunate to source a small amount of the exceptionally rare Aligoté Doré from the Calleri Vineyard in the Tres Piños area of San Benito County. This uncommon, low yielding selection of Aligoté offers an expressive nose of lemon zest, white flowers, and a subtle hint of green apple.

Light, elegant, and beautifully balanced, the wine is driven by crisp acidity and a long, refreshing finish that invites another sip. Bottled without filtration, it pairs especially well with sushi, white fish, and other delicately flavored seafood dishes. While already charming in its youth, the wine has the structure and balance to continue evolving and gaining complexity with age.
