Vineyard Notes: The estate is located in the province of Teramo in the fertile Vibrata Valley, which is close to the border of the Marche region. The sea is only 9.3 miles away and provides moderating breezes for perfect ripening. The vines are 20-40 years old. The vineyards are certified organic with conversion to biodynamic.
Winemaking Notes: Grapes were manually harvested. They were destemmed, crushed, and put in amphorae for spontaneous fermentation with skin maceration for 6 months. Poggio Varano Montepulciano then aged another 6 months in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: The bouquet is intensely fruity with ripe plums, blackberries, blueberries, and and black cherries along with spice tones. On the palate, it is velvety and fresh with great ripe fruit extraction. The taste is soft, persistent, balanced, and harmonious with a bit of a rustic charm from the amphorae.
Pairing Suggestions: The Poggio Varano Montepulciano pairs with fresh and aged cheeses, pasta dishes with meat or vegetable sauces, and grilled or roasted white meats, salmon, and tuna.
