In Roman mythology, Janus is the God for new beginnings, as well as endings, the future, the past and doorways. Janus is the God of balance. The ultimate expression of Pinot Noir! Janus is our flagship… the richest, most vibrant and intense blend that they produce.
Janus is the first label that Jimi produced when he founded Brooks in 1998. Jimi’s passion and interests of mythology and astrology often were shown through the creation of his first wines.
Vintage Notes: The 2023 growing season kicked off with a late bud break. Following bud break, as sudden shift to warm, dry weather marked the season, with only one June rain event. Ideal summer weather prevailed until a brief hot spell in August. Harvest commenced in late August, progressing smoothly until rains in September, which delayed picking but alleviated drought stress. Overall, fruit quality remained excellent, with balanced acidity and moderate sugars. While rain disrupted harvest timing, some fruit still met the 100 day bloom to harvest rule, suggesting no significant quality differences pre and post-rain.
Winemaking Notes: Fruit was hand sorted and 100% destemmed. Fermented with native yeast. Barrel aging took place in French Oak for 11 months.
Vineyard Notes: Brooks Estate, Crannel, Muska, Sunny Mountain, Temperance Hill, Eola Springs, Muska-Bement, Fayetta.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of pomegranate, violets, tobacco leaves, red peppercorns and herbs de provence. On the palate this is a bright and approachable red fruit driven Pinot Noir with complex layers of red cherry, chocolate covered red raspberry, and red apple skin.
