Vinification Notes: The Nebbiolo macerates on the skins for approximately 4-5 days in rotary fermenters with temperature control. The wine ages for 24 months in a mix of new and neutral French barriques. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeast as does the malolactic fermentation. The wine is not fined, filtered, or clarified. No substances that could modify the color or the structure of the wine is ever used.

Notes By Silvia Altare: "2020 offers an incredible range of Barolo, with a finesse and a delicacy that we haven't seen in a few years. I want to think of vintages from the past like 1998, as soon as it was released it seemed simple and small but over the year it grew and now it is considered one of the most sought-after vintages, still sharp and on point."

    Rating: 95 (4/4/2024)

The Elio Altare 2020 Barolo Cannubi takes a modernist approach to the MGA with some oak spice, tar and licorice that surrounds firm, crisp cherry and red fruit. There is a combination of fruit and oak spice that gives this wine staying power, texture and lift and then folds over the palate with richness and pretty volume. It ages in barrique for 24 months with 20% new oak. A mere 1,400 bottles were created.
