The second of Bea’s two early and highly influential skin-macerated white wines, “Santa Chiara” hails from the fabled Pagliaro cru, and combines roughly equal proportions of five varieties: Garganega, Grechetto, Malvasia, Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Everything ferments together, without any additions or temperature regulation, in stainless steel, and the wine is given several years of settling before being bottled without fining or filtration. The standout 2020, clocking in at just 13% alcohol, spent 27 days macerating on its skins, and it offers a beguiling nose of musk and truffle leading to a vibrant palate suffused with energetic tannins.

A gorgeous yellow gold, the 2020 Bianco Santa Chiara opens with a wild blend of candied ginger and incense complicating dried nectarines and peaches. This is round yet lifted, full of energy, with orchard fruits and inner floral perfumes that cascade throughout. This finishes with a pleasantly chewy sensation, leaving hints of tropical citrus and spice.
