Wyncroft 2022 'Marland' Chardonnay Non Affecte (Unoaked), Lake Michigan Shore

Vineyard Notes: This wine is a blend of two vineyards. Fenn Valley supplied the Colmar clone known for its tropical aromas, while Dan Nitz provided Dijon Clone 95 famous for it’s rich body.

Winemaking Notes: "Non Affecté" means "unaffected" in French and refers to the classical Mâcon style of this wine which sees no oak. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and cold fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with Épernay 2 yeast to bring out fresh fruity aromas and flavors. The young wine rested on its lees over winter to add body and complexity, and was bottled in March to capture freshness.

Tasting Notes: The wine has a nose of fresh apples and pears with a hint of brioche from the lees aging. The medium-bodied palate is fresh and displays intense yellow apple, juicy pear, and savory citrus notes that carry into a long finish. Wyncroft’s Marland series are vinified intentionally for early consumption, and this drinks beautifully now. This Chardonnay is perfect with fish, grilled chicken, cheese plates, and cold pasta salads.

Winemaker’s Comments: "I made my first Chardonnay from Southwest Michigan fruit in 1984 and was struck by how similar it tasted to Burgundian Chardonnay. Michigan’s slightly longer and warmer growing season tends to bring out a lushness of fresh fruit that surprises!" - Jim Lester
