We haven't had the Wren Song Riesling since the 2014 vintage. Happy to get a small allocation for Illinois of the 2022, which is showing young but will evolve beautifully!
Vineyard Notes: The Wren Song Vineyard is situated on a northwest-facing slope at the edge of the moraine overlooking the village of Baroda. The five-acre vineyard was planted in 2003 by Jim Lester's late friend Doug Nitz. Jim consulted on the clonal selections and rootstocks for the vineyard. The vineyard was planted to four clones of Riesling that would blend well together. Clone 10 from Austria contributes body, minerality, and grapefruit flavors. Geisenheim 198 clone adds classic apple and stone fruit. Geisenheim 110 and Neustadt clone 90 add ripe peach, nectarine, and mandarin orange notes.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes were harvested within the last few days of October with the perfect amount of sugar and acidity to make a bold dry Alsatian-style wine.
