Wine Notes: Made from skin macerated Pinot Gris, the Meinklang Foam is an orange sparkling wine with bright aromas and complex flavors (yellow-fleshed fruit, hints of olive, etc.). There is a wonderful balance on the palate between the refreshingly crisp acidity and the creaminess from the lees contact (6-8 months on fine lees). It dances between a juicy thirst quencher and a filigree wine.
Fruit Source: The Pinot Gris comes from Meinklang's Graupert Vineyard. This vineyard is special because it is not pruned; the Pinot Gris has the total freedom to grow and climb according to the vines’ basic instincts. The vines regulate their yield without intervention. This leads to an above-average amount of grapes to ripen as very small berries, yielding a harvest which is smaller as a result. The significant advantage of this is that the small berries have a higher skin-to-pulp ratio, therefore providing more aroma, extract and complexity in the wine. The name Graupert comes from the Burgenland dialect which older people use to describe someone slightly scruffy looking.
Tasting Notes: Meinklang Foam Pét-nat is tart and super fresh, almost like fresh squeezed juice. It has lovely citrus notes like grapefruit. This is what we like to call an excellent breakfast wine.
