We are thrilled to represent Swick Wines in Illinois with the help and connection of our friends at Minum Selections. For those not familiar, owner and winemaker Joe Swick creates a wide array of unique, fresh, and energetic wines from heritage and experimental grapes farmed on organic vineyards in Oregon and Washington State. Approachable in their welcomed lack of classism and convention, these evolving snapshots of winemaker and site give us excitement for what is possible. You can read more about Joe, his wines and vineyard sources on swickwine.com.

A 5th generation Oregonian, Joe Swick is making some of the Pacific Northwest’s most unadulterated wines. He caught the wine bug while working in the wine department of his local Portland organic specialty food store. Soon, he landed at Owen Roe as a cellar hand, the beginning of a journey that took him to Piedmont, Tasmania, and Portugal. After nine years and fifteen vintages, it was time to start his own winery. Joe’s ethos is rooted in showcasing the unique cold climate terroirs of the Pacific Northwest using a hands off approach. Swick partners exclusively with organic and biodynamic growers to develop wines that he himself would like to drink -- fresh, lively acidity, with no conventional additives, only adding modest amounts of SO2 on select wines when absolutely necessary.

Swick fans, you should grab this one, especially if you’re loving chilled reds. This usually has 20 days of whole cluster ferment and is aged in the concrete egg for eight months. But this vintage he had to let it go for ten more days because the wine just didn’t deepen in color. Go figure. But the flavor? The rose and cherry? That’s all there. It’s kind of delicious, with an emphasis on a sweet tart-like acidity.
