Vineyard Notes: Sourced 100% from the Powerline Estate Vineyard. Charles planted the 38-acre estate vineyard in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. The soils are well-drained with cobblestone river rocks and underlying layers of sand and gravel deposits, allowing vines to develop very deep and strong roots. The deep sand and silt below the stones bring a great purity to the grapes, while high elevations keep acids high, producing very well-balanced wines with remarkable complex characters.

Farming Notes: All vineyards are sustainably farmed, following organic principles. Zero pesticides, zero herbicides and zero adjuncts are used. Harvest is manual.

Winemaking Notes: 2.2 tons per acre. 70% whole berry co-fermentation (Cab Sauv) / 30% whole cluster co-fermentation (Syrah) in French oak tank, 51 days on skins. 22 months aged on lees in 65% new French oak barriques. Bottled from gross lees, unfined and unfiltered. Vegan friendly.

Tasting Notes: Seductive. Thoughtful. Seamless. Dried cherry, old leather, pipe tobacco, and touches of orange peel. So much depth and so sensual. Black currant, roasted herbs, fresh wildflowers, and a whisper of dried rye and cedar box.

    The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah The Creator wafts up from the glass with a minty freshness, cool-toned and collected, as mint and cedar give way to musky blackberry. Its textures are silky in feel, with a racy core of brilliant acidity that enlivens its black fruits and wild citrus tones. The Creator leaves a subtle twang of youthfully grippy tannins, yet finishes incredibly fresh and spicy. This is so easy to like today, but the best is certainly yet to come.

The nose is big, bold and smooth with a juicy, round and mineral-focused expression, offering gobs of dark red and black fruit tones. Full-bodied, the palate explodes with pleasure, showing soft herbal tones with sweet oak flavors that ride with blackberry and dark cherry flavors, compounding complexity while displaying layers of finesse and precision. The wine concludes with a food-friendly finish, emphasizing intense juicy flavors.

    Another stunning wine is the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah The Creator, which is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Syrah, all from the Powerline Vineyard. Ripe black cherries, currants, sagebrush, and peppery herbs define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, silky, polished tannins, and a great finish. The Syrah really brings a peppery, herbal, gamey style here, and this is a complex, incredibly satisfying 2020 to drink over the coming decade.
