In the case of Riesling, that balance is possible thanks to the interplay of acidity and sugar. Balance isn’t achieved by predetermined goals, but by listening to what the fruit from each vintage has to say. 2022 saw a hot, dry summer which continued during harvest. Grapes were picked at optimal ripeness to achieve pronounced acidity balanced with a medium amount of residual sugar. 2022 was a great Riesling vintage in Northern Michigan.
