Winemaking Notes: The grapes to produce Amarone are selected in the middle of September. They’re brought in the fruttaio (special room for drying), and left in plastic plateaux to dry naturally for 4 months. In January the grapes are selected, pressed, and put in tanks where, after about 15 days, fermentation starts thanks to selected yeasts. In the following 50 days, several pump overs and delestage for skin submersion are performed. The wine is then racked off its lees and moved to steel tanks for further decanting. After about 20 days, it is racked off again and moved to wooden barrels where fermentation and aging finishes.

Aging: 48 months of aging; 55% in 500-liter tonneaux twice used, 30% in 225-liter barriques twice used, 15% in 25-hectoliter barrels

Tasting Notes: The wine is slightly sweet, warm, robust, full, harmonious, and velvety with a most satisfying touch of bitterness. It is the ideal wine with game and has no rivals as an accompaniment to hard cheeses. But its most characteristic role is as an after-dinner wine, for sipping in moments of intimacy or for fueling lively postprandial conversation. It should be opened at least two hours before consumption and consumed at ambient temperature. It is the classic wine of friendship.

    Rating: 94 (1/12/2024)

A rich and harmonious red, with a creamy nappe to the texture, which drapes the supple tannins and carries the generous profile of black cherry reduction, fig cake, loamy earth, chocolate liqueur and cigar box, plus herb and spice aromatics. This puts a modern lens of fine balance and focus on Amarone's traditional style of full body and ripe, concentrated flavors. Drink now through 2038.
