"The spirit of Italy, the promise of something that is going to be delicious, and super-pleasant to drink. It’s a knockout!" —Winemaker, Charles Smith

Founded in 2012, Casa Smith is a Washington State project dedicated to Italian grape varieties interpreted through the lens of Washington terroir. Created by celebrated winemaker Charles Smith, the label focuses on small-lot, single-vineyard expressions of Barbera, Sangiovese, and Primitivo, produced with a philosophy rooted in traditional Italian winemaking techniques and hands-on craftsmanship.

Casa Smith reflects Smith’s connection to Italy—his ex-wife is Italian and his daughter is half Italian. Drawing inspiration from his travels throughout Italy, Smith envisioned a project that honored the integrity and spirit of Italian wine while embracing the distinct character of Washington vineyards.

The wines are sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites and crafted with an artisanal approach. Each bottling is designed to showcase both varietal authenticity and site expression, balancing Old World inspiration with the energy and individuality of Washington wine.

  • Casa Smith 2022 'Cervo' Barbera, Northridge Vineyard, Wahluke Slope
    Jeb Dunnuck
    Rating: 92 (7/10/2024)

Black and blue fruits, violets, and sappy, minty, floral notes all emerge from the 2022 Barbera Cervo, a juicy, medium to full-bodied, fruit-loaded, delicious Barbera with tons of character. As always, this is 100% varietal from the Northridge Vineyard and was brought up in neutral puncheons.
  • Casa Smith 2022 'Cinghiale' Sangiovese, Wahluke Slope
    Jeb Dunnuck
    Rating: 90 (7/10/2024)

Black cherries, leather, spicy, and more savory, red fruit-driven aromas and flavors define the 2022 Sangiovese Cinghiale, a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, juicy Sangiovese from the Wahluke Slope that will shine for 4-6 years. This is 100% Sangiovese from the Rosebud Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, aged in neutral French oak puncheons.
