Montesco 2021 'Pie Franc' Cabernet Franc, Tunuyan Login DCH 93 In Stock

Montesco is produced by Matias Michelini. Matias sources grapes from high-altitude vineyards in Tunuyán and Tupungato—some of the most elevated and extreme sites in Mendoza. Many of these vineyards are remarkably old and endure harsh, cold conditions, which impart intensity and character to the fruit.

The wines are crafted at Passionate Wines, Matias' winery in Tupungato, where he follows a minimalist philosophy. Native yeasts initiate fermentation, and additions of sulfites are kept to a minimum. The wines mature in a mix of oak barrels and concrete eggs, vessels chosen to preserve purity, texture, and expression of place.

The resulting Montesco wines are distinctive, elegant, and high-toned, each bottle showcasing Matias Michelini’s ability to balance artistry and restraint. These wines are produced in small quantities and offer a true reflection of altitude, climate, and an uncompromising commitment to letting the land speak.

Reviews

  • Montesco 2022 'Agua de Roca' Sauvignon Blanc, Tunuyan
    Descorchados
    Rating: 94 (5/17/2023)

As usual in this Sauvignon, acidity is the common thread so that the fruits, almost all citrusy in character, show up strongly in a white that's refreshing and incisive at the same time, full of herbal and mineral notes that appear as the wine breathes in the glass. This comes from the San Pablo zone, about 1,500 meters above sea level, one of the most extreme in the Uco Valley, and that give rise to red and white wines with tremendous personality. And without a doubt, Montesco is one of them.

  • Montesco 2021 'Pie Franc' Cabernet Franc, Tunuyan
    Descorchados
    Rating: 93 (5/17/2023)

Pie Franc is a Cabernet Franc that comes from a selection of sandy soils in San Pablo, at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, one of the highest areas in the entire Uco Valley. From vineyards planted in 2010, this Franc is a very ripe vision of the variety, with sweet flavors and without the usual touches of herbs and tobacco that are so common in the grape in this area. With firm, fierce tannins, this wine still needs a couple of years in the bottle to gain complexity.
