El Porvenir was founded within the Calchaqui Valley in the town of Cafayate by the Romero-Marcuzzi family in 2000. The family's first winery was founded in the late 1970’s in Tolombón, just a few miles from the town of Cafayate. The Romero-Marcuzzis have been an integral part of the Cafayate community ever since and El Porvenir de Cafayate has become one of the benchmark wineries of the Salta region.

The family and wines show a great love and respect for the local terroir and they strive to maintain the legacy of their ancestors while also incorporating current winemaking and viticulture methods. The family owns and farms four different vineyards within the Calchaqui Valley all of which are located close to the town of Cafayate. The oldest vineyard was planted approximately 65 years ago and each parcel is primarily comprised of sandy soils with elevations ranging from 5400 to 6200 feet above sea level.

The gravity fed winery and cellar is housed within a hand made adobe structure in downtown Cafayate. All grapes are hand harvested, with little intervention in the winery to maintain the purity of the fruit. The winery is currently run by Lucia Romero-Marcuzzi, the granddaughter of Roberto, the founder of El Porvenir de Cafayate.

  • El Porvenir 2018 'Amauta' Tannat, Valle de Cafayate
    Rating: 87 (9/5/2019)

Slightly medicinal scents of kirsch, blackberry, licorice, menthol and violet. Then surprisingly sweet and plush on entry, offering lightly saline dark raspberry and meaty flavors and good palate coverage. On the soft side, finishing with substantial but fine-grained tannins, a faint herbal edge and lingering raspberry fruit.
  • El Porvenir 2018 'Amauta' Malbec, Valle de Cafayate
    Rating: 88 (9/5/2019)

A touch of meaty wildness and mocha reduction to the aromas of blackberry, violet and minerals. Juicier and darker in its fruit character than the Amauta Cabernet, with harmonious acidity and a touch of herbs perking up the musky middle palate. The dark berry flavors carry through to the firm finish, but some menthol and herb qualities are keeping this wine clenched in the early going.

    Rating: 89 (10/31/2019)

The 2018 Amauta Absoluto Torrontés had citrus and floral aromas coupled with good freshness and acidity. It feels like biting into fresh Moscatel grapes, juicy and crunchy. It finishes dry and clean. It was bottled unoaked.

(Best Buy). Roasted, blackened berry aromas are gamy and herbal and suggest hot blacktop. On the palate, this Cafayate Malbec is tight and gritty in feel. Oaky berry and plum flavors are herbal and buttery, while the tannins are hard on a finish with a green note.
