From Communal Brands' Melissa and Dan Saunders, the same people that brought us Otto's Constant Dream and Strangeways, comes Schplink! Virtually no one in Austria has been bold enough to put wine in anything other than a bottle, until now.

Founded in 1721, Schplink's winery is currently owned by 11th generation winemakers Norbert and Gisela Bauer. The lineage continues with their five children, two of which are already studying oenology. They are located in the picturesque Pulkautual area of the Weinvertel, near the river Pulkau.

Weingut Norbert Bauer’s motto is “Tradition in progress - we are where the wine grows.” From their founding, the Bauer family has practiced low intervention and organic viticulture practices, even planting and harvesting in accordance to the phases of the moon. These principles of Bauer's ancestors are kept alive at the winery today. They recently obtained an Austrian certification for sustainability that mandates organic practices in the vineyard, as well as sustainable practices for the entire business, including CO2 emissions for the winery.

The old wine cellar on the property is still used. Norbert, Gisela, and their five children have made viticulture a vital part of their lives with nature a fundamental aspect of their winemaking. These familial values have maintained a balance between old and young, everyday life and structure, that alternates with surprise and stimulation and creates a multifaceted togetherness. This spirit of history and innovation make them the perfect partners for Communal.
