Terroir Notes: La Manarine Carignan is sourced from a three-hectare parcel called Le Alcyon located just outside of Travaillan in Vaucluse. Carignan is susceptible to overproduction, particularly when the vine is young, compromising quality. It is essential to control Carignan yields to insure quality, so old bush vines are a must, as is the case with this wine from Gilles Gasq. Gasq first produced a wine from these vines in 2014.

Winemaking Notes: The Carignan is 100% destemmed and put into stainless steel tanks for native yeast fermentation. The wine is pumped over daily until pressing. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel. The first racking is done after malo is completed. The second racking occurs during the year according to taste. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes: Gasq prefers to pick the Carignan on the early side of its maturity to preserve its vibrant natural acidity and avoid making a wine that is overly alcoholic. La Manarine Carignan showcases vibrant red fruit underscored by hints of wild herbs and earth.
