Winemaking Notes: The grapes are harvested by hand. They macerate with their skins at a controlled temperature in rotary fermenters for 3-4 days. The wine ages for 5 months in French barriques. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeast as does the malolactic fermentation. The wine is not fined, filtered, or clarified. No substances that could modify the color or the structure of the wine is ever used.

Farming Notes: All the vineyards are farmed organically. Copper and copper sulfate are only used if necessary. Organic cow manure from Altare's mountain cows is used to fertilize the vines.

Harvest Notes from Silvia Altare: "As a big fan of the entry level wines, I’m proud to put the same labor-intensive effort as we do for Barolo from the vineyards to the wine making. I like these wines to be juicy and rich but still quaffable. The first bottle empty on the table is the best bottle! This is what I look forward to tasting in these wines, and these 2024 are just like that: vibrant, fragrant and drinkable.

Issues with Flavescenza dorata / flavescence dorée remain and the Barbera production is dropping drastically. We cannot find a solution to this problem but we are stubborn. I tore up our Barbera vineyard in Monforte and replanted it again with Barbera. I have faith and patience, we will find a solution and we will protect one of the Langhe’s noble grapes. "

Perfumed, this red displays cherry and raspberry flavors. Slightly candied in a good way, with a juicy profile and chalky feel on the moderate finish. Drink now. 1,250 cases made, 420 cases imported.

The 2024 Barbera d'Alba is a total delight. Vibrant red cherry fruit, new leather, licorice, spice and lavender are pushed forward, with a kiss of French oak that frames the close. Altare's Barbera offers an attractive mix of bold fruit and brisk acidity. It's the best of the entry-level offerings.
