Vineyard Notes: Montmerond is located roughly one mile away from Antoine’s domaine. The plot consists of old vines ranging between 50 and 60 years. The lieu-dit is certified organic and has a very specific terroir of rocks such as quartz, blue volcanic stone, and granite. Antoine Sunier works with 1.20 hectares.

Winemaking Notes: The Gamay grapes were vinified spontaneously in barrel with indigenous yeast. Whole cluster carbonic maceration lasted for 10-15 days, followed by horizontal pressing and manual racking. Montmerond matures the longest out of all Antoine Sunier’s wines, aged on fine lees in old Burgundy oak barrels for about one year. The wine was bottled unfiltered, unfined and with a small addition of sulfites. It saw no other additives throughout the winemaking process.

The 2022 Regnie Montmerond comes from 50-year-old vines frown on shallow granitic soils. It underwent a two-week maceration followed by 12 months of aging in used barrels. It has a focused bouquet, quite mineral-driven with crushed stone percolating through the pretty raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is tensile on the entry with rocky detritus that seems to shape the finish. Very distinctive.
