This is Montenidoli’s richest red wine and a classic expression of a native variety Sangiovese. It’s called ‘Sono Montenidoli’ because it represents the spirit of the land and the hills overlooking San Gimignano facing Chianti Classico: I am what I am.

Winemaking Notes: The finest bunches of old vine Sangiovese are chosen from Montenidoli’s vineyards for this wine. The grapes are manually harvested and vinified with a long maceration on the skins. The wine then matures for 2-3 years in French barrels. It’s bottled unfiltered to maintain its intensely powerful personality. The wine rests in bottle for years until deemed ready for release.

Food Pairings: Its fullness and structure make it perfect for special occasions and holidays. Pair with the more complex meat dishes, including game such as hare, boar, mountain goat, and venison. It goes well with aged and piquant cheeses including Pecorino di Fossa, Parmigiano, Gorgonzola, and Stilton. Try desserts made from chocolate or dried fruit. It is a cure for all depressions of body and spirit.

  • Vinous
    Rating: 92 (8/29/2023)

Today the 2016 offers up a classic Sangiovese profile of red fruits, cedar, underbrush, tobacco and licorice. Like all the reds here, there is some rusticity in the tannins, but also a ton of varietal expression and sheer character.

  • The Wine Spectator
    Rating: 97 (10/31/2023)

Pure and elegant, with silkiness offset by refined tannins and vibrant acidity, setting the stage for ripe black cherry, blackberry, Mediterranean herb, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors. Shows superb balance and length. Drink now through 2043.
