The Domaine Montrose Viognier is purposely atypical; it is livelier and less exuberant than those produced in the region. We like it for its freshness and most importantly for its balance.
Winemaking Notes: Each terroir is vinified separately. Grapes are destemmed before skin contact or direct pressing, depending on lot. Fermentation temperature is maintained between 15°C to 18°C (59°F to 64°F) to retain fruits aromas. The wines are blended after fermentation, aged in stainless steel vat, and then bottled during winter and spring.
Tasting Notes: This Viognier is an inviting shade of light yellow with green glints. The nose shows exotic fruits, mango, and cut hay. Enjoy chilled on its own or with fish, shellfish, Asian food, Indian food, and cheeses.
Farming Notes: Domaine Montrose is certified HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3), which is the highest level of France's Environmental Value certification. It is a result of their efforts towards virtuous agriculture: planting 2,000 trees to preserve biodiversity, planting vineyard ground cover, pheromone dispensers, manual weeding, non-irrigated vines, etc. This certification complements their existing carbon neutral approach: to limit their impact on the planet, the Coste family has reduced their CO2 emissions to a minimum. They offset the rest by financing ecological initiatives.
