Terroir Notes: Travignoli is amidst the hills of Pelago in the Chianti Rufina DOCG. The soil composition of this area consists of marl and calcareous clay as typically found in the Arno Valley east of Florence. The vineyards are between 200 and 350 meters above sea level at the foothills of the Apennine Mountains. The mountains provide cooling winds during the summer heat and diurnal temperature shifts, resulting in a red wine with smooth tannins that is lighter and less structured compared to those in Chianti Classico.
Winemaking Notes: The red grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (28/30°C) for 10 days before racking. After malolactic fermentation occurs, the wine is racked to oak barriques where is matures for 18 months. The wine matures further in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes: 2012 Calice del Conte is a mature Super Tuscan red wine that pairs beautifully with savory dishes and grilled, roasted, or braised meat. The bright fruit has mellowed, allowing delicious secondary flavors to fill the palate. Calice del Conte is harmonious with a long, consistent finish.
