With a passion for fine spirits inherited from his father René who owned a small distillery, Joseph Helfrich made the astute decision to sell Cognac and brandy beyond France, particularly in neighboring Germany and even East Germany. He launched Les Grands Chais de France (LGCF) in 1979. Although Cognac was considered somewhat exotic, Joseph’s bilingual abilities allowed him to successfully penetrate these markets. In 1981, Joseph expanded into the wine trade, and LGCF has since grown into one of France’s largest and most successful wine companies. The Helfrich family legacy continues today with the newest generation, siblings Frederic and Anne-Laure, who are leading LGCF's international growth. Their USA exports division is named Advantage International.
