Flaco Tempranillo is an approachable introduction to Spain's most iconic red grape. Versatile, expressive, and deeply rooted in Spanish wine culture, Tempranillo is grown virtually everywhere red grapes are grown in Spain. The grape particularly thrives in regions where warm days are balanced by cool nights, which helps to slow down its growth cycle. The grape's name derives from the Spanish word temprano, meaning "early," a reference to its naturally early ripening cycle. Cooler nighttime temperatures help preserve freshness and balance, resulting in wines with vibrant fruit and structure.

Vinos de Madrid DO is a perfect environment for growing Tempranillo in a balanced way. Beyond serving as the nation's capital, Madrid is surrounded by historic vineyards, many planted to old-vine Tempranillo. Flaco is sourced from dry farmed vineyards in the districts of Arganda del Rey and Navalcarnero, located southeast and west of Madrid at elevations reaching 750 meters (2,400 feet). The combination of altitude, abundant sunshine, and soils rich in sand, limestone, and clay creates ideal conditions for producing balanced, characterful wines.
