Flaco Tempranillo is a perfect introduction to Spain’s most well-known red grape variety. Versatile and hearty, Tempranillo is grown virtually everywhere red grapes are grown in Spain. But Tempranillo does particularly well in areas that have warm days and cool nights, which helps to slow down its growth cycle. The grape is named “Temprano” meaning “early” because of its ability to ripen early. Therefore, climates which can slow down ripening tend to create more balanced Tempranillo wines.

Vinos de Madrid DO is a perfect environment for growing Tempranillo in a balanced way. Madrid is not only the capital of Spain but also one of the country's most interesting wine growing regions. The outskirts of this great royal city are full of old vine Tempranillo. Flaco is sourced from dry farmed vines planted in the Arganda del Rey and Navalcarnero districts, located southeast and west of the city of Madrid at 750 meters (2,400 feet) elevation. The high elevation vineyards are composed of sand, limestone and clay soil.
