Mastori is a tiny family operation on Andros, one of the northernmost islands of the Cyclades. Dimitris Mastoris, his wife and daughter work a collection of roughly 15 tiny parcels totaling around half a hectare, including old ungrafted vines alongside newer plantings. The vineyards are laid out on traditional stone terraces from 100 to 500 meters in elevation, with clay and limestone soils and the Aegean never far away. Dimitris had been making wine for the family long before he bottled commercially, with the first vintage released in 2017. Production remains microscopic, with only a few thousand bottles made each year.

The focus is on Andros rather than trying to make another version of a better known Greek island wine. Mastori works with local varieties including Potamisi, Assyrtiko and Koumari, including old vines that have survived on the island for generations. The wines are fermented with native yeasts and made without oak, filtration or much cellar interference. The combination of old vines, high elevation, maritime exposure and the island’s traditional terraces gives the wines a distinct Cycladic identity. Mastori is going to change that.
