Weingut Karl Haidle is the oldest privately owned winery in the Remstal, with a family history in Stetten dating back to 1949. Today, Moritz Haidle farms 23 hectares across the historic villages of Stetten and Schnaitt, with roughly half the vineyards planted to Riesling. The estate’s best sites are steep, cool and often terraced, with a mix of Keuper, clay and other mineral soils. The centerpiece is the Stettener Pulvermächer, a vineyard first documented in 1420, where Haidle farms a small parcel of old, partly own rooted Riesling vines. Other important sites include Berge, Burghalde, Mönchberg and Häder.

Moritz took over the estate after training with several leading German producers and has moved the farming first to organic and then to Demeter certified biodynamics. His focus is on healthy soils, deep rooted vines and naturally low yields. The cellar follows the same direction, with spontaneous fermentation, extended lees aging, no fining and minimal sulfur. Riesling is the main focus, but Haidle also makes some of the Remstal’s most distinctive Lemberger, along with old vine Trollinger and small quantities of varieties such as Kerner. The wines are fermented and raised parcel by parcel, increasingly in large, older neutral oak, allowing the differences between vineyards, soils and vintages to remain visible in the finished wines.
