Messanges is an old Loire Valley name for Cabernet Franc. Bertrand is using this line for a Red and Rosé from his younger vines. Vinified for immediate accessibility, they are the perfect introduction to the Pallus style. It is dangerously easy to drink. Pair this wine with goat cheese and roast chicken. It is nice served slightly chilled.

Vineyard Notes: Messanges is primarily from the Clos de Briançon, a sandy site with silex stones that lies near the Vienne river.

Winemaking Notes: All farming is biodynamic with average yields around 35hl/ha. Harvesting is by hand, fermentations are spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in concrete and wooden vats, and macerations last for up to 30 days. The grapes are fermented at cool temperatures in concrete tanks and aged in concrete and old 600-liter barrels for six months.

About the Estate: Bertrand became the 5th generation of the Sourdais family to manage the estate when he took over in 2004. They are based in the village of Cravant-Les-Côteaux, which is one of the 2 villages encompassing the Chinon AOC. Cabernet Franc being the king grape of the region. Domaine de Pallus enjoys a unique situation in the appellation; it is surrounded by vineyards in the middle slope, which is considered the best terroir. View Map.
