What is Hefeweizen? Weizen is a traditional style of wheat beer that originated in Germany. Unlike the beers generally available in Japan, Weizen has a distinct fruity aroma and flavor, in addition to its characteristic haziness produced from the yeast. In German, "hefe" means "yeast-containing" and "weizen" means "wheat." It literally means yeast-containing beer made using wheat malt. Ginga Kogen is a hefeweizen that is characterized by its mellowness from wheat, its cloudy golden color from not filtering the beer yeast, and its banana-like fruity aroma from the yeast.
Tasting Notes: Ginga Kogen has a smooth and gentle taste. Using more than 50% wheat malt and not removing the yeast gives it a natural mellowness. The aroma is reminiscent of bananas and peaches, with a hint of spice like cloves. The yeast aroma gently fills the mind. Low bitterness makes it easy to drink. The low bitterness comes from the reduced use of hops.
