Vintage Notes by Vinous 8/2023: “These are the most impressive wines I have tasted from proprietor Giovanna Morganti. Le Boncie is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southern part of Chianti Classico. At first, the wines can appear a bit light, but they open beautifully in the glass, showing tremendous persistence, finesse and understated complexity. At times, the 2020s reminded me of Gianfranco Soldera’s Brunellos, but naturally, with the more mid-weight body of Chianti Classico. Sustainable farming and minimalist winemaking are the signatures. I can’t recommend the 2020s highly enough.”
Wine Notes: Chiesamonti is from single 1.3-hectare parcel called Chiesa Monti. The parcel is adjacent to the town of San Felice in Castelnuovo Berardenga. It has a stonier soil profile (lower clay content) than Le Trame. The 10-year-old vines consist of almost all Sangiovese with a touch of Canaiolo. Elevage is 2 years in 5hl Stockinger oak barrels, very similar to the Le Trame regimen.
