Joie De Chien is Pinot Noir blended from Nicholas Family Pommard (formerly Bella Vida) and La Colina Wadenswil. It consists of all the barrels that did not make it into the Nouvelle Lune Pinot Noir.
Nicholas Family Vineyard: Jay started making wines from this vineyard in 2001 when the vines were still very young, and, over the years, it has steadily matured to become a powerful expression of the Dundee Hill AVA. He currently has 0.5 acres each of the Pommard, Wadenswil and Dijon 777 clones.
La Colina Vineyard: La Colina Vineyard has always referred to as Jay's “secret sauce.” In his former winemaking life, he was creating much larger Dundee Hills Pinot Noir blends for the national market. Year after year, the barrels Jay selected to do a single vineyard "La Colina Pinot Noir" were sacrificed into the blend. The barrels always elevated the wine in such a positive way that it had to be done. This is a classic Dundee Hills site. When Jay started this new project, he was fortunate that owner George HIllberry had a small 1-acre block of Pommard for him.
