Vineyard Notes: The vines, while still relatively young (11 years), give a luscious, textural, intense wine which is both classic and yet modern. Only 1.25 miles from the coast, and planted on low-lying gravelly soils, Domaine Géraud benefits from cooling ocean breezes, which allows Pinot Noir to thrive even this far south. The cooling influence ensures the grapes maintain finesse.
Winemaking Notes: This very limited production Pinot Noir is picked when perfectly ripe but with a natural balance of acidity. Cool vinification in stainless steel ensures fresh fruit flavors. The wine is aged for six months (no oak) before being bottled.
Tasting Notes: The Domaine Géraud Pinot Noir is a fruit-driven Pinot that shows soft cherry and red berries flavors. There is underlying savoriness reminiscent of lees. The palate shows structured tannins and beautiful acidity. Grilled lamb would be a perfect pairing, as would a wild mushroom risotto.
