Terroir Notes: In 1999, Bertrand Sourdais discovered a unique area within the Ribera del Duero D.O., San Esteban de Gormaz. The vineyards in this geography are in the easternmost part along the shores of the Duero River as it passes through the province of Soria. It is perhaps the coolest microclimate of the Ribera del Duero. The resulting wines are considerably fresher and more elegant than is typical from the appellation. Hernando and Sourdais farm their own vineyards organically, and work with like-minded growers for the balance of their fruit.

Winemaking Notes: Fruit was manually harvested from a mosaic of 550 plots of many ungrafted vines (30-100 years old). Grapes macerate for 6 days before being pressed into French oak for spontaneous fermentation and maturation. The wine spent 9 months in 600-liter French oak (5% new). It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes: Antidoto Ribera del Duero is bright and open with floral aromas and notes of dark, red fruit. The sandy soil with river stones provides Antidoto with an intense and spring-like aroma and a delicate and vertical mouthfeel. It is balanced with a medium body and perfect for sharing with friends.

92pts (2022 Vintage) Vinous 11/16/2023
“The 2022 Antidoto is a Tempranillo from old vines in Soria, Ribera del Duero. Garnet in the glass with a purple sheen. The slightly reductive aromas feature blood, blackberry, violet and black cherry notes. The palate is dry and intense, with a reasonably structured profile softened by fine, velvety tannins and a juicy finish. This is a remarkable Soria red that leaves a lasting impression.”

    Rating: 92 (1/21/2023)

It's creamy, velvety and juicy, with 14.57% alcohol and good freshness and acidity. With time in the glass, it develops more complexity and is herbal, meaty and floral, with very fine, chalky tannins. It feels young and lively but approachable. Great value too.
