Gaintza 2022 'Roses' Getariako Txakolina DO

Terroir Notes: Gaintza is located in the Getaria subzone of the Spanish Basque Country on the Cantabrian coast. Vineyards are planted at 75 meters elevation on the bluffs overlooking the water. Soils are limestone and clay. Fairly constant temperature with little diurnal variation due to proximity to the ocean. 

Winemaking Notes: Temperature controlled fermentation occurs in stainless steel with a 24-hour maceration. Fermentation was slow (about 45 days) with no malolactic. The wine is aged for 8 months on the lees in stainless steel. The Gaintza Roses gets its effervescence from the natural carbonation produced as the wine completes fermentation in the bottle. 

Tasting Notes: On the nose, aromas of lemon, raspberry, and strawberry with a whiff of salt. The palate is mouthwatering, bright and effervescent. Snappy with gulpable appeal, with wild strawberry, bright raspberry, and mineral flavors. It finishes salty and clean, begging for another sip. Gaintza Roses effervescence and bright acidity make it a wonderful aperitif on its own, but it would be beautiful with shellfish, shrimp, and fried seafood.
