About the Name: The small scale distilleries who use extremely artisan methods are known as "tabernas." Distillers, known as "taberneros," hand craft every part of the process. It is their skill and expertise that makes a truly superb raicilla.

Los Hermanos: Benito and José Salcedo Rios have made an excellent team. Benito, an agronomist and engineer, leads all of the farming tasks, from germinating agave seed to maintaining the plantings. Trained by the grandson of Don Felix, a legendary maestro, José is in charge in the tavern, overseeing cooking, fermenting and distilling.

From Arik at Fidencio Spirits: "In order to provide excellent quality raicilla at an approachable price, we got creative. Esteban, the founder of La Venenosa, found a producer who had been holding a large batch of amazing raicilla for many years and was happy to sell it at a special price. We realized that we could continue to find opportunities like this by batch hunting at different tabernas, which is the local name for distilleries and a very fitting name for these expressions."
