Vintage Notes by Decanter 3/2022: "At the heart of the Rhone 2020 vintage lies a paradox. If growing conditions were marked by heat and drought--like several of the preceding vintages--then why are the wines so very different in style? There are no conclusive reasons, but the 2020s are fresh, vibrant and deliciously drinkable, with well-defined flavors that faithfully reflect their terroir. Alcohols feel lower this year than in the three preceding vintages, making for better balanced, more approachable wines, and lovers of white Rhones will be thrilled--they have a rare fluidity and brightness."
Vintage Notes by Jeb Dunnuck 12/2022: "2020 is an exceptional vintage for the Northern Rhône. The wines are powerful and concentrated yet hold onto a wonderful sense of purity and freshness. Quality is incredibly high across all the appellations, and 2020 is a worthy cap to the sensational run of vintages from the Northern Rhône starting in 2015."
Vineyard Notes: Premier Quartier Saint-Joseph is a blend of multiple parcels with varied exposure on the Peyraud plateau. Plantings are from the early 1980s as well as massale selection vines from 2006-2008.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes are destemmed into concrete vats for spontaneous fermentation. Daily pump overs and foot pigéage is done. The Syrah ages in a combination of 90% old barrels and 10% neutral demi-muids for 12 months, then 3-4 months in tank before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with a low amount of sulfites (about 15ppm).
