Vineyard Notes: The Nebbiolo vines are manually harvested from vines planted exclusively within the confines of Barbaresco and are scattered among various crus, including Rabaja and Pozzo. The average vine age is 38 years.
Winemaking Notes: Fermentation occurs spontaneously in stainless steel. Cuvaison lasts 14 days. The wine is then racked to large oak barrels (50 to 60 hectoliters). For the De Forville Barbaresco, several rackings are done during the first year. Thereafter, the wine remains in barrel for an additional 2 years without a racking. The Barbaresco is then bottled without filtration.
Tasting Notes: This wine is emblematic of the work done at the De Forville estate: the wine is rigorously traditional, marrying the finesse of Barbaresco with the alluring aromas and flavors of truffle, earth, berries, rose, tar, and leather. It carries, most important of all, a backbone of sweet, dusty tannins that give length and breed.
