Vineyards: Il Mio Vigneto rests in the Clement Hills AVA of the Lodi grape growing region. This AVA is differentiated from the more typical sandy and homogeneous soils of Lodi by ancient volcanic activity. The soils are remarkably different than the greater Lodi area and give wines of great intensity and focus. Dwight Busalacchi has planted the Barbera (among other varieties) in the early 2000’s. He has been farming strictly organically since their plantings. Barra Vineyard is located in Redwood Valley, just north of Ukiah, on predominantly Pinole gravelly loam soils. The red soils of Redwood Valley and the cooler climate compared to surrounding regions make this an ideal region for growing white grape varieties. Highly deficient in organic matter, the moderately acidic soil pH allows for optimal nutrient uptake to allow the vines to thrive. The Barra family was a pioneer of organic farming in the Redwood Valley, and these vines have been farmed organically since their planting in the 1990’s.

Vinification: Pétillant Naturel is a traditional type of sparkling wine, where the carbonation occurs by bottling the wine before it has finished it’s primary fermentation, resulting in a fresh, juicy, and fruity wine. The Barbera was carbonically macerated. Whole clusters were placed into a 1,000-gallon stainless steel container, covered with CO2 gas, and macerated for 10 days before pressing. The wine was then allowed to finish fermenting in 300-gallon flextanks. The Pinot Blanc and Muscat macerated on their skins, separately, for 7 days before pressing to finish fermenting in neutral oak barrels. The base wine was blended together in December of 2021. A portion of juice was frozen during harvest and allowed to thaw and ferment in November / December of 2021. A calculated amount of this fermenting juice was added to the base wine to provide sugar for the carbonation. No additions of any sort were made to this wine, no sulfites added, and the wine was not disgorged.

Tasting Notes: Loads of fresh red berry fruit dominate the palate, and the Muscat provides a beautiful floral lift. The bubbles and lees provide a creamy texture. Please chill in the fridge overnight and serve without disturbing the settled lees.
