The Cosmic Red Blend is a playful interpretation of the Bordeaux type varieties that Les Lunes farms. The blend came about through experimentation with shorter macerations and shorter aging. This helps to underline and showcase the freshness and fruit character that is so expressive due to the sunny Californian climate and focused organic farming.

Farming: Les Lunes manages and performs all aspects of farming at all the Sonoma vineyards. Everything is 100% organic and all sprays are timed in relation to the moon. As they transition to dry farming, the vineyards are watered minimally two or three times a year depending on vintage conditions. Cover crops are used to increase the organic material, life and vitality of the soils. The Mendocino balance of the blend comes from farmers who work their old-vine vineyards with focus, care, and 100% organic practices.

Vinification: All of the grapes were harvested and vinified separately at their own optimal ripeness. Each of the red wines were destemmed and gently macerated at cool temperatures for 4-14 days. 3/4 of the Cabernet Sauvignon and all of the Zinfandel was made as a rosé. The Chardonnay was destemmed and macerated for two weeks until it was pressed at dryness. The wines were then aged separately for 7 months in a combination of neutral oak and flextanks, at which point the components were blended and 18ppm of sulfur was added. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration in early May.

Tasting Notes: The Cosmic blend is a chillable red wine, like the Les Lunes Astral blend, but primarily made with Bordeaux varieties. Normally these Cabernet Sauvignon wines are structured and rich, but this wine is defined by its juicy fruit character on the palate with tons of aromas of blue fruit and mountain berries.
