While Castelão is a grape that is typically found further south in Portugal, Luis has found a mono-planted plot of the light-skinned grape in the Douro and is working his magic to craft a wine of unparalleled delicacy and elegance.
Vineyard Notes: The Castelão plot is located in Baixa Corgo. This is a subregion that experiences extreme highs and lows from a temperature standpoint, with some of the greatest day to night temperature swings in all of Portugal. As such, the fruit experiences extended hang time.
Winemaking Notes: Whole cluster fermented in plastic bins using all indigenous wild yeast. Maceration with the skins lasted around 25 days. Maturation took place in 500-liter used barrel for 18 months, with full lees contact (no stirring).
Tasting Notes: The nose shows snappy aromas of red and blue fruit, overlaid with a distinct schist mineral note. The palate is bright and punchy, with sour cherry, plum, tart blueberry tightly wrapped in floral and mineral tones. Mouthwatering acidity and soft skin tannin provide lovely balance to the fruit. Drink with a slight chill.

"This focused red offers purity and freshness, with juicy red plum and red berry flavors marked with spice, sleek mineral and anise notes. Accents of white pepper and tea are captured by dusty tannins along the lingering finish. Harmonious and elegant. Drink now through 2030."
