Winemaking Notes: The skins remain in contact with the must during fermentation, which lasts around 3 weeks. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeast. The skins are submersed during fermentation via pump overs. After the alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation completes in the cellar at temperature of 20°C (68°F). The wine ages in large traditional Slavonian oak casks for 20 months and matures in the bottle for at least 8 months. No filtration or clarification is done before bottling.

The 2017 Barbaresco Tre Stelle from Cascina delle Rose is a terrific example of the vintage and what it has to offer. Orange peel, spice, rose petal and mint lend notable aromatic expansiveness as the 2017 shows off its many charms. Racy and pliant, with few hard edges, the 2017 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 15+ years. There is plenty to like.

Tre Selle and Rio Sordo are the two adjacent vineyards farmed by Cascina delle Rose. This boutique, family-run winery is happy with results in 2017, although this vintage was characterized by three full months with no rain. Giovanna Rizzolio's family farm measures under two hectares in Tre Stelle. Their 2017 Barbaresco Tre Stelle boasts an open personality with medium concentration and build. The bouquet reveals pretty floral and fruity tones. Tre Stelle plays strong cards in terms of mouthfeel, with dark Nebbiolo fruit and spice flavors supported by a firm textural backbone. There are some dusty mineral notes on the close.

Delicate scents of rose petal, blue flowers, woodland berry and forest floor shape the nose along with whiffs of camphor and tobacco on this fragrant red. Loaded with elegance, the focused, savory palate delivers juicy red cherry, blood orange and licorice alongside taut, polished tannins. Drink 2022–2029.
