The first vintage of Paradigm Cabernet Sauvignon was made in 1991 from Ren and Marilyn Harris’ estate vineyard in the heart of Oakville. Heidi Barrett made the inaugural vintage and continues as Paradigm's winemaker to this day.
Vineyard Notes: The Paradigm vineyard includes 38 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 acres of Merlot, 2 acres of Cabernet Franc, 1.5 acres of Zinfandel and 1 acre of Petit Verdot. Today, at Paradigm, they have six different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon budded to three different rootstocks. Read more about the terroir here .
Winemaking Notes: The grapes are sourced from Paradigm estate vineyards. The grapes are manually harvested and sorted in the field. Sorting occurs again by hand back at the winery via a conveyor belt. Pumping over is done by hand. The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 100% French oak barrels for for 20 months and in bottle for an additional 20 months.
Heidi Barrett’s Tasting Notes: "Dark Cabernet color with beautiful aromas of black cherry, cassis, plums, 5-spice, vanilla. Big, ripe and mouthcoating across the palate. The flavors are similar to the aromas with ripe fruit, berry/cherry pie, moderate tannins, and nice length. This wine shows enough structure to be age-worthy yet soft and balanced enough to enjoy upon release. Flavors linger in this tasty dense wine. Tastes like Oakville."
