A Quo is Montepeloso’s fresh high-flier. Made using grapes from the more recent estate plantings, A Quo showcases Montepeloso’s special terroir while also being accessible in its youth. It ferments in large steel tanks and ages for 12 months in barrels (15% new) and 12 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes: A Quo is the young and juicier wine in the lineup; it's balanced, detailed and ready to rock.

Vintage Notes: You have probably heard all the hype about 2016 in Central Tuscany, and the vintage might be even better on the coast. The wines are almost as packed as the 2015s, but possess a cooler, fresher style. It’s the most complete line-up of wines from top to bottom in Fabio’s 20-year career.

Here’s a quick testimonial from Antonio Galloni (3/2019): “The wines I tasted during my most recent visit were nothing short of thrilling. Like many properties, Montepeloso endured a brutal 2017. Yields were down a punishing 60%. As a result, proprietor Fabio Chiarelotto and longtime winemaker Fabrizio Moltard opted to bottle just one wine, the entry-level A Quo. The 2016s, which I tasted prior to bottling, are shaping up to be monumental. Readers will find all of the pedigree of this important Tuscan vintage in a set of wines that is positively dazzling.”

The 2017 A Quo is fabulous. Then again, Montepeloso did not bottle any of their top wines in 2017. All of the fruit usually destined for Eneo, Nardo and Gabbro went into this, the estate's entry-level wines. Dark, pliant and supple, with tremendous fruit density, the 2017s is exceptionally beautiful from the very first taste. An infusion of succulent dark cherry, raspberry jam, rose petal and sweet spice runs through the A Quo, while bright acids and underpinnings of tannin give shape and persistence. All I can say is: wow!
