What makes this wine special? The word unique applies here literally. Biodynamic since 2007, this is the only bottle of 100% Vital, a nearly extinct grape. The wine is made and labeled in homage to the late winemaker António Carvalho, who died in 2009 of a sudden heart attack at the age of just 41 whilst treading his own grapes. After he passed away, his widow Marta kept the project going and in his memory renamed the wine Antonio.

Vineyard Notes: Vital vines were planted between 1932-2000. Grapes are harvested by hand by friends, family and volunteers from plots Acacio, Cremilde, Humberto and Pedra.

Winemaking Notes: All the plots are vinified separately. Grapes are gently pressed and put into 200-liter French oak barrels for 9 months. Light batonnage takes place. No chemicals for correction are used. Wine is lightly filtered prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes: Intense aromas of white flowers, fresh tarragon, green and yellow apple, pear and vanilla. On the palate, intense and bright, with silky texture and a rare combination of weight and elegance Orchard fruit, flowers, spicebox and bright citrus lead to a long, intense finish with lilting tones of green herbs and mineral.

Pairing Notes: This is a wine meant for bounty of the sea. Fluke crudo, roasted branzino, oysters Rockefeller, salt and pepper shrimp.

"Six rocky, limestone 50 to 100-year-old Vital parcels at 250-400m on the Serra Montejunto produce a cool, lemony palate, saturated with crushed coriander and fennel seed, celery salt, flint and chalky oyster shell. Intensely lingering, thirst-slaking and profound, with great goût de terroir.”
