Maximilien Selections
Maximilien Selections is owned by Laurent Bonnois. Born in Versailles, Laurent’s first encounter with wine happened at the family table. His parents bought a country house in the Loire Valley near Bourgueil. As a kid, Laurent Bonnois spent summers running in the vineyards, then as a teenager doing the harvest for neighbors. His passion for wine grew in his early twenties, and his thirst for wine knowledge led him back to school to Bordeaux University.
In 1997, Laurent moved to NYC where he sold wine for a French distributor. In 2000, he opened a wine shop in Brooklyn called Blanc et Rouge. Contact with end consumers during this period was crucial in his understanding of the U.S. wine market. In 2005, he sold the store to start his import company Maximilien Selections. Maximilien Selections represents European natural, organic, and biodynamic estates.
"All the best wines are already on the U.S. market. So, my goal is to find wines from unknown region and/or new talents. What I bring should taste where it’s from. What I bring should be made with an area’s historical grape varieties and be made by small family producers. The price is also important to me, as wine should be available for all, not only on special occasion." - Laurent Bonnois
