Vintage Notes: Bud break was earlier than normal, followed by a hot and dry growing season through July. Temperatures decreased through August and September was moderate and dry, allowing for a more gradual ripening and longer harvest season than 2014.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted by hand, destemmed and crushed into an open top fermenter where spontaneous fermentation occurred with native yeast. The grapes were punched down twice daily to keep the cap wet and extract color. After three days of fermentation, the Pinot Gris was pressed to a stainless steel tank where it was allowed to ferment to dryness. Then the grapes are pressed to neutral oak barrels where they finish their fermentation.
Tasting Notes: This is the third Haden Fig release of a Pinot Gris Rosé; it is another knockout! It is gorgeous on the table and even better on the tongue. Red cherry, peach, apricot, strawberry, watermelon rind and a touch of cinnamon make for nearly endless possibilities when paired with food; from local fish to charcuterie and grilled vegetables.
