2022 is Modales' inaugural estate Blaufränkisch from La Gracia Vineyard. The fruit was manually harvested on October 4th. The fruit was destemmed but not crushed and fermented using native yeast that came in on the fruit. It had an extremely long fermentation with the wild yeast, which created a lot of savory flavors such as leather, olive, and clove. It aged exclusively in an egg fermenter and never saw any barrel time. This is pure Blaufränkisch without any wood notes.
This wine is funky, savory, dark and brooding while also showcasing lovely brightness and acidity that keeps you wanting another glass. This is the perfect wine for dried meats, so next time you bust out your charcuterie board, toss this in the fridge for 15 minutes and you will have the perfect pairing. Also try it with schnitzel!
