Winemaker Notes: The grapes are crushed gently and dropped by gravity into 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked 48 hours minimum, and then inoculated with a variety of yeasts. The wine is then hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel where it finishes both primary and secondary fermentations, seeing 20 months in oak (55% new oak and 45% neutral). The individual lots of wine that comprise the Merlot are kept separate for at least 12 months before they are blended.

Tasting Notes: This Merlot shows notes of dark fruit, including raspberry, cranberry and blackberry, followed by hints of bacon, leather and tobacco. The palate brings a rich, full mouthfeel with tart notes of rhubarb and a dynamic yet smooth finish.

Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry and boysenberry complemented by sexy American oak notes of mocha and exotic spices. Not fleshy or particularly sweet but supple and juicy, with cherry and dark berry flavors lifted by spicy high tones and a floral element. The freshest of the new releases I tasted from Tamarack Cellars, this wine finishes with dusty, slightly drying tannins and lingering perfume. (aged in 55% new oak, 70% American and 30% French)
